It is a fact that food these days is not what it once was. Food has become largely processed and the amounts of chemicals that are found in food now are at an all time high. Farmers and food production companies wants to keep making its money, so to avoid food from going bad and to protect they crops against pests, they throw dozens of different chemical and pesticides to protect their food. Protecting ?their food? and protecting us are two completely different things. All those chemicals and pesticides can only harm our body, jeopardizing our health. Not to mention how easy and cheap access to fast food and junk food in today?s world, increasing out cholesterols, heart problems, and weight problems.
With all of these, you are left with impurities that constrains proper digestion which leads to lack of energy, poor physical and mental health, stomach and digestion problems among hundreds of other possible serious diseases.

This is when a detox is needed! Usually once a year is enough depending on your health and habits and a great time to do a detox is at the beginning of the year after all the holidays are over and all the left over goodies is gone from the fridge!

If you have never done a detox then any time is the best time, trust me, your body is going to thank you after! When you feel you are not making progress in your weight loss, or you feel lack of energy on a daily basis then it?s time to give your body a break and clean out the bodies systems (at least until 6 months later where you can reevaluate your health and energy.)

Cleanse option
A great detox from Health Elements is the Cleanse, which is a ready-made detox formula that can last any amount of time convenient for you. This is a fantastic option for a once a year detox that is simple, effective and affordable for a health conscious individual. Some people have to do this cleanse once every three months given that they work in an area which involves drinking lots of alcohol and entertaining clients over unhealthy dinners and drinking. However, everyone is different, your own body will tell you when its time do detox again!

To help you continue healthy eating and detoxing your body, here is a list of the top 10 foods that helps detox your body:

1. Garlic
Garlic contains high amounts of vitamin C, which supports your immune system and your liver. This doesn?t mean that you have to eat raw garlic though; in order to unleash its powerful enzymes garlic must be sliced and cooked. Tip: let the garlic sit for 15 minutes after crushing, this will enhance the enzymes even more!
2. Lemon Water
A great source of vitamin C too, lemons are known to help the body detox and burn fat. Drink a glass of lemon water every morning to give a your metabolism a kick start.

3. Ginger
Not only great for adding into dishes, try a spicy ginger bath by throwing grated ginger and Epsom salt into an almost scorching hot bath. Stay in as long as you can, this will definitely get you sweating all the toxins out!

4. Leafy Green Vegetables
Leafy greens boost chlorophyll levels in the digestive tract, which helps the body get rid of environmental toxins like smog and herbicides. Eat them in salads, throw them into soups, or saut? them with a touch of olive oil.

5. Whole Grains
Good old-fashioned oatmeal and dark rye bread are great choices here, which are incredibly high in insoluble fiber to help keep you regular. Fiber is like the scrubber in the kitchen that cleans your stomach getting rid of the extra impurities.

6. Green Tea
Fill up on liquids with lots of green tea, high in Catechins (an antioxidant), which speeds up liver activity and increases the production of detox enzymes

7. Beets
The fiber in beets also helps increase the production of antioxidant enzymes in the liver, which help the liver and gallbladder eliminate bile and other toxic substances from the body.

8. Cabbage
Known for its liver-cleansing properties, eat cabbage in soup or in a salad with apples and caraway for a clean, crisp treat.

9. Artichoke hearts
Artichokes stimulate the production of bile, which enables us to digest fats and absorb vitamins from our food. Apart from cooking and eating the tender parts of the leaves, try making an artichoke tea by pouring hot water over the leaves and mixing with honey.

10. Fresh fruit
Whether it?s blueberries, mangoes or apples, fresh fruits are packed with fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins to help you combat all the bad stuff you ate over the routine.
